Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) is a provider of educational programs in 40 of its schools. The school offers provides academic instruction to more than 133,600 students in kindergarten through 12th grade in 178 schools throughout the cities and towns of Mecklenburg County. It operates several schools, including high school, elementary school, middle school and Pre Kindergarten. The public school system began operations in Charlotte in 1882. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
