300 East is a Dilworth mainsta...

300 East is a Dilworth mainstay for good reason. The food is excellent and affordable, and the service is top-notch. Whether it is date night, lunch with the ladies, or a baby shower (It was all adults … it really isn’t a great place for kids.) like the one that was given for me there a few years ago, 300 East is a favorite of mine.

Get anything on the menu; it is all good. My favorites include the Sweet Potato Ravioli, Fall Salad, Black Bean and Green Chile Chicken Tortilla, and whatever the special is that day. Get the Housemade Pimento Cheese as an app while you are at it. This piece of advice comes from a girl who doesn’t even like Pimento Cheese, so you know it is good stuff.

When you head to the restrooms, look carefully and you’ll notice the cheeky sense of humor that defines the coziness of the place on the bathroom doors. Look extra carefully if you have imbibed their signature Wong cocktail. It goes down (too) easily, and they are so strong that patrons are limited to two per sitting.

They are extra accommodating at 300 East of those who are eating gluten-free, and the patio out front is a garden oasis on busy East Boulevard. Because the food, service and atmosphere are so delicious, be sure to make a reservation or be prepared to wait a bit during busy times. It’s worth it.

Sadness

For years I enjoyed coming to 300East to enjoy the entire menu, trying to not be mundane, changing up every time. Weekly I would have a meeting nearby and stop to sit at the bar for a bowl of soup or salad with a cocktail or tea. On the past two visits, I've been discouraged to find portions sadly reduced (my side salad was a portion that made me wonder if this was a "taste testing" for culinary exploration. I also was seated with a friend that also was eager to return each time for the eclectic menu offered. When we had no follow-up visits by our server to check on anything and waited 15 minutes after consuming our dinner, we decided it was time to stop waiting and check out at the bar with the manager. Our server FINALLY discovered our absence and came downstairs.

I am sad to say, I/we won't be returning for some time. And that is after 8 years of patronage.

Heartbreaking To Say, But...

I used to adore this restaurant. They used to have a great antipasto platter with all kinds of cured meats and the most amazing pickled vegetables on it, but every time that I went back to this place, the platter started to have less and less on it until it eventually became some kind of hummus appetizer. That's kind of the general theme for this place actually. Everything about it started to drift downhill, which breaks my heart because I used to look forward to coming to this cute little house-turned-eatery right down the street from my house.
