First, always trust the chefs' specials. We know these guys could be making a killing in Pittsburgh or New York, but they stay here and we are so fortunate to have them in our Mon Valley. Sign up for text alerts for specials on the weekends and you surely won't be disappointed! Bravo to gracious owners Mike and Lori Coury for recognizing these local talents! They are always milling around to make sure everything is top-notch, clean, and the food well-executed.
Second Impeccable, personal, delicious service! If you are a regular, like my husband, Dan, and I---who keep coming back for the great food, atmosphere, and friends both BEHIND the bar/kitchen, and IN in the stools &, you will never be disappointed! You may next to the mayor, a world famous collectible books dealer, or an old classmate. No chic-chic vibe here!
All Italian specialties are GREAT, but the innovative mixes and specialties of the chefs' weekly offerings are superb!! Pizza is awesome and they do a frenetic take out service on everything---salads, wings, filet mignon (my fav), etc.
Third, families are surely welcomed and seating for them is plenteous! Even groups like card clubs,` salespeople, fraternal orders, bridal showers, birthday parties, and any organizations can arrange for special seating on a lovely decorated level a few feet above the bar---also handicapped accessible by ramp! Plenty of free parking is available across the train tracks for large groups.
Wine and beer pairings on special nights are always well done and really showcase Trey and Adam's skills with matching wine/beer with foods. Ben, their brother is amazing, too! We have paid six times the price (as travelers & foodies ) and none match The River House / Salatino's pairing dinners. You get an education from both the chefs and the sommelier...as well a treat for your palate.
Fourth, sizes are never skimpy at River House! So come hungry---great
Fifth, all in all, River House, Mike and Lori, the chefs, and the wonderful bartenders make an unstoppable team all focused on your pleasure! If you live anywhere in the Mon Valley and have not been here, you owe it to yourself to stop in and experience what will soon become a favorite and a "Cheers" sort of place for you!
