I cannot even give this so called lawyer even one star. Ms. Hoffman sent me a letter stating her office was taking over my bankruptcy because my original lawyer declared bankruptcy himself. In the letter she did state that fees would have to be charged for any new services since she did not receive any money when I originally filed. I found that reasonable and fair. No services were needed until I paid back the courts. Once the trustee sent out his notice stating I was compliant and complete, all we had to do was file one last certificate. My husband and I signed this certificate in October 2014. In December of 2014, we received letters from our creditors stating that our bankruptcy was dismissed without discharge-meaning we were non-compliant-and that we now owed them balances prior to filing bankruptcy plus fees. In short, we spent time and money for bankruptcy protection that Ms. Hoffman ruined for us. It took seven attempts to contact Ms. Hoffman before she returned my calls. We signed the certificate again in January of 2015. Of course I would have to pay the $235 to reopen the case plus her fee. I was angry about the fee for reopening the case since I felt she was the one who dropped the ball. My husband and I signed the forms. She did not file them. That is why our case was dismissed without proper discharge. But, I just wanted to get this done. I would pay her fee and argue with her about the court costs to reopen the case later. She assured me the case would be reopened and we would receive a proper discharge within 10 days. But, by the second week in February, I had heard nothing. I spent the next month trying to contact Ms. Hoffman via cell phone, office phone and email without success. I received absolutely no word. I finally contacted another lawyer. I had to pay court costs, pay him to reopen the case and pay him for two hours of his time to file the motion to reopen and file the final certificates. Within three days, our bankruptcy was discharged. Creditors now see that we are compliant and the calls and letters have stopped. I still have no idea what happened to Ms. Hoffman. If it weren't for her negligence, I would not have had to undergo the stress of dealing with creditors despite filing for bankruptcy protection and I would not have had to go to another lawyer and pay additional money I barely have to reopen the case. DO NOT hire this lady for anything unless you want to throw away time and money. It won't get done and she will never call you back to let you know why. She is careless and negligent.
