I'm pretty familiar with how dentists offices work (an old family friend had his own office). At the end of the year, they start making phone calls to get you to come in to use up your dental insurance since most people have $1000 - $1500 every calendar year to spend at the dentists office. I went to them years ago, and I get a random phone call 3 years later after I moved back from Nashville inviting me for a cleaning. Then they insisted that I needed a deep cleaning too - which my other dentist in Nashville said I didn't need. They kept urging me to come in so I said sure why not. The first deep cleaning visit they ushered me into the room and after everything was set up, I received a sticky note from the front desk that my portion of the payment would be over $300. I got out of the chair and said I didn't want to get it done, it wasn't that bad. They kept insisting that they'd double check with the insurance company even after I said I was leaving several times. Finally they persuade me to stick around and tell me it's only around $90 for both deep cleaning sessions. I had them print it on a piece of paper and we both signed it. I still have that paper.

A month back I get a bill for another $140. I call them and ask what this is about, since I already paid. They said that that's how much I owe for the deep cleaning. I said I signed a piece of paper agreeing to the $90-something co-pay, which is what I paid. They said they are not responsible for what the insurance company says and I signed a document saying I'd pretty much pay whatever they tell me I need to pay, regardless of my insurance. I tell them this is unfair and reiterate my frustration with their office, and Rose said she would talk to the doctor and call me back. I told her to please do, since I didn't want to get sent to collections.

Wouldn't you know it, today I got a COLLECTIONS letter in the mail demanding payment. No phone call, no nothing. Would never recommend this scammy dental office.
