I recently had to have care for both my brother and my mother here on two separate occasions. From the staff in the emergency room, to the care of the nurses on the floor, to the expertise of the doctors, I was impressed on both occasions from top to bottom. It’s sad that often only people with negative experiences tend to post their complaints online. Canonsburg should be proud of this community Hospital and all it has to offer to it’s parients.

The worst care I have ever received.

I have a great doctor, but unfortunately my experience in the hospital post-op was absolutely horrendous. I was ignored by nurses, other times it took them as long as 30 minutes to respond ( and that is IF they did), as well the fact that I laid on a dirty iodine stained pillow for two days that came from the surgery and was never changed or removed. The nurses had absolutely no compassion when I was crying in agony and my mother had to beg the nurse to come into my room because I was in hysterics. NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS HOSPITAL.

Also, upon discharge they were 6 hours late. And when I was wheeled to the car I was still shaking and crying in pain so much that literally someone stopped and asked why I was going home. Awesome experience.

If you had to choose an acute rehab center to send your loved to or go there yourself, stay away from this place because it is not safe. My family member would have had a quicker response by dialing 911 than using the nurse call bell had he fallen. He had to wait 20-25 minutes for his call to be answered to help use the restroom. He was there after major spinal surgery. On day 2 of his stay The physical therapist failed to report an acute neurological change to the neurosurgeon. My family member told me about this change so I called the neurogeon immediately. The surgeon called for an ambulance to take him back to Pittsburgh within 30 minutes of me making the call. He had a epidural hematoma on the spine and it was very time sensitive to get him back in surgery to relieve the pressure or else there would be permanent nerve damage. There was a huge lack of communication amongst the healthcare team at Canonsburg. When I spoke to the director, Lori Kirsch, I was told that it was protocol for their doctors to decide as to whether or not they felt it necessary to call his neurosurgeon. Any acute neurological change needs to be addressed immediately with the neurosurgeon PERIOD. Also, I was told that this change was not noted in his file until 24 hrs after he told me about it. Sounds like someone was trying to cover up their mistakes.
