Founded in 1891, the Massachusetts Maritime Academy provides graduate and undergraduate programs in a variety of fields, including marine engineering, humanities, international maritime business, environmental protection, transportation, mathematics and social science. It offers bachelor s degrees in facilities engineering and emergency management. Graduates also can earn a Merchant Marine officer's license, and a naval officer's commission. The academy administers a commercial shipping program that features the enhancement of technical, time management and communications skills for students. The Massachusetts Maritime Academy s facilities include a gymnasium, aquaculture laboratory, library and dining hall, as well as playing fields. It also operates a dormitory complex that includes study, chapel and laundry facilities, as well as rooms with phone and Internet access. The academy is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The Massachusetts Maritime Academy is located in Buzzards Bay, Mass.
