I took my expensive certified antique ring to Rubin Jewelry to be resized only a half size up. At Rubin's, a sales-woman told me it would be ready in 5 days. The fifth day came and the same person who took the ring from me told me it can't be resized and it was too risky for the stone. I was suprised since my band was a regular style. I said okay and simply took my ring. On my way home I realized my 18k antique ring had a deep scratch in it. The jeweler decided to test for gold even though they knew it could not be resized? There is no reason my ring should be scratched and no work was performed on it. Also there are ways to test a ring today, without having to scratch it. My guess is Rubin knew he could not work on the ring but was curious to see a ring like this and wanted to test it. A waste of time and gold.
