Dr. Ashley Marcus MD, specialty is Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, a physiatrist, who completed a musculoskeletal fellowship in Interventional Pain Management, Sports and Occupational Medicine. She first decided to become a physiatrist when she realized that focusing on physical medicine and rehabilitation would allow her to improve patients functional status and quality of life. She grew up with a mother struggling to overcome the debilitating symptoms of multiple sclerosis. She observed that one of the most frustrating things for an individual to lose is their independence and secondly, the ability to do the things he or she enjoys. She has made it her mission to promote her patients functional recovery so that they can go back to the activities that they love. She attended medical school at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and then completed an internship in internal medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York. She embraced leadership during her residency at Nassau University Medical School, where she was the chief resident as well as the president of the residents council. In order to obtain further training, she returned to Rutgers to complete a fellowship in musculoskeletal medicine. She is a member of the Spine Intervention Society and the New York Society of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and believes in staying up to date with the most current evidence-based medicine.
