This was the WORST!!!! They couldn't even do fries right. They where black burnt, thin and soggy, they where inedible I never review anything online but this was so bad that I had to say something! This was so bad that I can't believe the other good reviews are actual customers.... They have to be from people connected to the restaurant. Every thing was Disgusting

Very disappointing,..I had tried this place 10yrs ago when the opened lousy back then, waited to try it again 10yrs. Later! Since when is 4ribs cut into half considered a full rack of ribs.$16.95 with 2 sides which were bland and tasteless. If you want burnt charred ribs tender greasy and tasteless this is your place. Jump on the Bus or Train, so many great ribs joints in Manhattan, east,West side, village....

WCBS DINING DIARY REVIEW I'm Bob Lape with Dining Diary. One of the better kept secrets in the Bronx was exposed by Groupons recently - The Barbecue Pit, a modest, 28-seat eatery on Mosholu Ave near Broadway. Its owner-chef Rani Vaswani, who learned cooking at her family's Indian restaurant in Manhattan, does everything to order in her open kitchen. The menu roams from pit pets such as ribs, wings, burgers and roast pork to tandoori chicken, turkey meatloaf, fish & chips, Cuban sandwiches, collard greens and key lime pie. Under a ceiling painted to resemble the sky are tables holding rolls of paper towels and small buckets for bones. Chef Vaswani has natural flair for flavors. Her sauteed catfish French-style-- there are others, was in a lemony-butter sauce, served with a sprightly salad for sixteen dollars. Turkey Meatloaf, three dollars less, was well-made too. The Barbecue Pit's small but friendly staff also earns points. Not fancy at all, but quite appealing. -Bob Lape

This is a truly terrific restaurant! Don't let the name fool you. There's a lot more going here than just BBQ. Ms. Vaswani is a fabulous cook and everything is really fresh and the portions are hearty. And her pies!! You won't be disappointed!

I had the fried chicken today and I would say that it was the least greasy fried chicken I've ever had and crust was tasty. The french fries were also very fresh. I think they cut them from a new potato with each order. The food here seems to have a very clean taste every time.

I've been coming here since The Barbecue Pit first opened. I became acquainted with Rani when her family had an Indian restaurant on the upper west side and was thrilled that she opened this restaurant around the same time that my son moved to Riverdale. It is truly a favorite - good food, friendly service, and Rani will adapt some of her recipes to suit personal preferences or medical needs. I have brought friends here who go back on their own (even though it's a long trip for them). And despite the name, a vegetarian can get a great meal here.

Wow! What a find. If I didn't live in Manhattan I'd be at the Barbecue Pit at least once a week. Food is SO fresh and delicious and the vibe is friendly and welcoming. I had the chicken and rib combo, collard greens (just terrific) along with sweet potatoes. We really indulged ourselves and had the wonderful apple and cranberry pies as well. On second thought, maybe it's good I don't live closer!

Very rarely I bestow 5 stars on any business. However, this place gets all the stars. My husband and I have been coming here since it opened. Rani is always welcoming and when time warrants it, she comes out and talks to the customers. She gets the customer service aspect of her business. I always have the salmon but sometimes surprise her and change my order. The food is always cooked to request. The waitstaff always ask questions before finalizing the order. Keep up the good work, RANI AND STAFF!!!!!

Good place, right here in sleepy Riverdale. I had Whole BBQ Chicken, and my g/f just had a salad. The chicken was tender and juicy. The weather was perfect outside, and they had the doors open letting in a cool breeze. And the Mets were playing the Phils on TV. It was awesome.

What a great place, food, cozy. I am visiting my sister and she took me here... I had the best Salmon, Salad, Bread dish... spices just perfect... I just moved to Missouri from California and was missing good Salmon... AND that Cranberry Pie for dessert. Now I have a reason to come back to visit my sister... to eat at The Barbecue Pit :-) K

Definitely recommend the spinach and eggplant. Love the owner who cooks everything herself...and is always warm and welcoming. The only place where my three teens don't have any disagreements about...and all have their favourites! The ribs are GREAT! Service is always excellent. The vegetarian options for my veg. friend are also amazing.

I stumbled upon Barbecue Pit a few years ago and am so pleased I did. I'm a big fan of customer service, and it's top notch for a cozy spot like this. You don't need a special palate to enjoy barbecue pit, just a person who loves good comfy food and they nail it every time. The owner is fantastic. She goes above and beyond. And i love that their kitchen is completely open to the guest, you can see all the care and attention she puts into the meals. I was really a big fan of the baby back ribs but i tried the fried chicken and was hooked. Really what brings me and my family back is the great service, excellent location for Northern Bronxites and the food. I recommend it over and over and over again!
