The turmoil we had to endure from a funeral home expected to assist our grieving family at our most vulnerable is something I do not wish on anyone. And beware of Dottie and Yesenia. Their rudeness is unparalleled. Even though my siblings made pre-arrangements for our father 3 years before his death, they chose during a health pandemic to try to price gouge us on everything, from the casket to disinfection. They tried to say that cedar caskets were a "new health regulation" for those who passed away from COVID but once I informed them that I checked with the state Bureau of Funeral Directors and was told, via email, that no health regulation existed, they then said it was their own regulation. When I stated that our contract should be honored, their funeral director said "if I didn't like it, they would refund your money and you can find another funeral home." I agreed and then was told I wouldn't get the refund for 2 weeks. It wasn't until local politicians and the State got involved that a check was produced in 48 hours. Then it took more than a week to coordinate a time someone would be on site to retrieve it. Look elsewhere if you care about your deceased loved ones.

I lost my beautiful, sweet Mami on 3/20/17 and buried her just yesterday and now I'm replaying this entire past week over in my mind...First, I want to be very clear that this review is in regards to the R.G. Ortiz Funeral Home located at 2121 WESTCHESTER AVENUE, in the Bronx. I made arrangements with Michelle Ortiz. Michelle was highly professional, sympathetic, patient and helpful. I can relate and feel terrible for the families that, during such a sad & stressful time, have had such horrible experiences at other Ortiz locations... it has to be that they're franchises and privately owned. However, the location at 2121 Westchester Avenue is very clean and the staff is also professional and sympathetic. It was evident to me that Michelle runs a "tight ship"...she's assertive and understands the great importance of standards and integrity as well as compassion. I understand, first hand, how "ghetto" the other Ortiz locations are because, unfortunately, I had my father's wake at the Ortiz on Southern Blvd. 12 years ago...I knew I wasn't going to go back to that location....but after reading reviews about the Westchester location I decided to just visit and see for myself how I felt about it and I'm glad I did, so with good faith,
I can recommend the WESTCHESTER Ortiz Funeral Home.

Incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate establishment.
Here are the hi-lights:
1. We arrived this past Friday for a service that was supposed to begin at 9 am, the body didn't arrive until 9:45 am... several phone calls were made to driver to find out his ETA, he never answered the phone!
2. We were not informed of outstanding balance that policy didn't cover until the service had finished. They do not accept credit cards, so my husband and brother in law had to leave the service to look for a bank to withdraw the large cash amount they needed. The business threatened without it they refused to complete services (drive body to crematorium and limo ride for family members). If this had been brought to our attention earlier we could have taken care of this while the body was being transported to funeral home 45 minutes late! The drivers also threatened extra charges because they were taking too long at bank!!
3. They locked three family members in the funeral home after the service.

NEVER, NEVER, EVER would I recommend this funeral home to anybody. The service was good the establishment was clean however, I witnessed them take a beautiful woman and change her complete face to the point that a picture had to be placed in front of the casket for people to recognize her. Her face was HUGE, this is a woman that had a real thin face and died of natural causes in bed surrounded by her family. To then walk in to the funeral home and view a different face Thanks to the HORRIBLE MAKE UP JOB done at this place. This place is the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!

This place does a horrible job with makeup and setting up the person. My aunt was viewed here and she looked horrible. it did not look like her. I have gone to a few funerals here and they do the same thing. if you want your loved one to remain the same as you know them, this is not the place. They stuff their faces so bad and they cannot match their skin color. It was just a horrible job!

My friend made arrangements for her husband's funeral over the phone from Texas. She asked and paid for a good quality casket. Instead they put him in a casket that looked as though it was sitting in their showroom for years. At the cemetary right before burial the casket would not seal. When Ortiz was called they gave her major attitude over the phone and told her she was supposed to have checked it before purchasing it...... Helloooo.. she ordered over the phone from Texas! The owner from Ortiz finally came to the cemetary with major attitude towards the family. Not once did he apologize to the family for what was happening. While we waited in the cemetary the staff there told us that Ortiz funeral home has done this many times before to other families. They sale damaged caskets. Also they have even mixed up paper work and switched bodies....After standing in the cemetary for almost two hours, her husband was finally put in a nice new casket and put to rest! Do not... I repeat Do not give these people your money! If you want your loved one to be sent off the right way go somewhere else. The staff there are unprofessional, insensitive, and rude!
