I just returned home from havi...

I just returned home from having my twenty year old cat euthanized by Dr. Bates. I rescued my cat when I was nine years old and have cared for her ever since. I brought my cat to Dr. Bates because she had suffered a stroke and was unable to hold down water, lift her head, or walk for more than two steps before falling. After years of treatment for ailments including hyperthyroidism, asthma and arthritis, I made the very difficult decision to stop subjecting my cat to invasive and uncomfortable medical tests and treatments as her condition had ceased to improve or even stabilize. Shortly after she turned nineteen, I sought second opinions on her medical condition and was advised that continuing such treatment seemed to be done more for my own sake, as she was declining in health and quality of life in spite of treatment.

When we arrived at Middletown Animal Clinic today, Dr. Bates made it clear that this assessment of my cat's health and treatment was one she did not agree with. She did not ask any questions about the decisions I had made for my cat and instead began our visit with a very nasty tone, although I was crying and had been since entering the facility. Prior to conducting the procedure, Dr. Bates yelled at me and slammed one of the examination room's doors in my face. It was not until I, though tears, told her assistants that being berated while preparing to say goodbye to my pet was making an incredibly painful experience all the more horrible that Dr. Bates eventually returned to the room and refrained from yelling at me again (which meant she also did not speak to me OR acknowledge my presence WHILE euthanizing my cat).

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is a terrible thing to do. Saying goodbye to your family member while Dr. Bates screams at you and slams a door so hard the pictures on the walls shake is unnecessarily cruel to both pet and parent. I would not advise anyone to bring a pet to Middletown Animal Clinic.

this place is aweful aside from taking it upon herself to give my cat a rabies vx with out asking me pissed me off--especially after i mention hes my only cat who is AFRAID to go out so that vax was pointless and just cost me an extra 30 bux--but the worst was when i had to bring him for euthanasia( which No pet owner ever wants to go through this) I asked if the girl could hold a check for 210 til the next day, and i'll even give her 50 bucks toward it now--she said No! has to be upfront! with this callous attitude as i'm standing there ready to ball again..and one more thing when they perform euthanasia--they dont give anesthesia before injecting them with phenobarbital..so go here if you want cold uncaring, only want your money-to hell with a suffering animal type of people....

P.S. I would give NO stars but I don't think yelp has that option..?

Middleown animal hospital

The personnel are rude and their LACK of attention or concern for my dog disheartened me.

Do yourself a favor and NEVER bring your beloved pet to that facility.

useless people

The people in here are extremely rude and unprofessional. When they cannot find the issue with your animal they recommend that you euthanize it. They are over prices and have no clue how to treat animals in here. I would rather take my pet to a human hospital then deal with the incompetence of the people who work in here. Both The people behind the counter and the veterinarians are horrible people. Just to inform any person who is interested in seeing a vet that takes care of the animal and its issues on the spot i Would recommend going to armory dog and cat hospital located at 18 E kingsbrigde They are helpful exceptionally priced and will deal with the problem on hand on like Dr. Mauriello who recommend that you euthanize my pet because i don't have 1,000 dollars on hand for unnecessary ex rays because if she would have listened then she would have known what the issue was instead of being a nasty and very aggressive vet whom hurts the animals and the animal owners who actually loves there pets hence the reason for bringing them to be seen by the vet in the first place but all i have experienced in inappropriate aggressive painful actions towards the animal who was in a lot of pain. They are useless and overly priced. IF YOU CHOOSE TO HAVE YOUR ANIMAL SEEN BY THESE PEOPLE I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK. OR AT THE LEAST GET A SECOND OPINION BY ANOTHER VET BEFORE TAKING THERE WORD FOR IT.
