Maybe our expectations were too high....

In my twenties and thirties I worked at high end restaurants, and these days we dine out regularly at least once a week. Although the building is everything we expected, our full satisfaction ended there. The entire staff seemed stressed, from the hostess to the waiters and bartenders. No "I really like working here" feel. Our first order of naan bread was burnt. We ordered a second order, less cooked. Came back the same. The waiter tried to explain that different cooks on the tandoor cook differently. Burnt is burnt.

Sea scallops were small and not flavor infused. The 'cream sauce' was barely there, the lobster popover was a popover cut side ways and filled w/lobster meat;absolutely nothing special. Simosa app was fabulous and came with plenty of mango sauce. Shrimp app was O.K., but again, no big on flavor. Steak dinner;very basic and the cut was way thin for the pricing, but it was tender. Veal chops; excellent but quite small. Tandoori chicken; just go to an indian rest.and get the full flavor. Also, too much time passed between apps and dinner with nothing on the table. Because we ordered naan, we did not get the table bread, which would have helped bridge the time gap. One of our party ordered beer, and the glass remained empty until we were served dinner and specifically requested a second. How does an empty beer glass remain empty while the other party members get full attention to the bottle of wine ordered?

Maybe it was a bad night. But, it seems to me, if employees get ridden too much, and the entire staff seems unhappy, it will reflect on the dining experiance.

The price range was what we expected for the type of rest. it is; it is just overpriced for the inattentiveness of the details that make dining an 'experiance' worth paying for. Management needs to create a job atmosphere that make staff enjoy their jobs. A pleasant work atmosphere does wonders for any other shortcomings.

Now for dessert, get the apple pie parfait and skip the brownie bread pudding; it was just not good. My waiter asked if I would like to try another, but by the time he came to ask, the rest of the party was done with thiers. I said no, and the check was promptly placed before us as my uneaten dessert was being removed. My experiance in the past working at 4 star restaurants leads me to believe there is kitchen/front staff conflict. The waiter should have the ability to use his/her judgement to make dining great, I felt like the waiter got frightened when we requested less burnt naan, there was a noticible difference in his demeanor when he returned.

Not a family restaurant.

Lastly, no table was 'crumbed'. It does not seem to be a practice here.

Happy Staff makes a restauant, and can let diners overlook many details that only become important as the dining experiance dwindles.
