With a construction cost of $1.3 million and 2,000 laborers, The Cook Nuclear Plant was one of the largest construction projects in Michigan history. It is made up of two pressurized water reactors, each rated at more than 1,000 megawatts and has produced approximately 150 million megawatt hours of electricity since it became operational. Located on 650 acres along Lake Michigan's eastern shoreline, the plant is owned and operated by American Electric Power. American Electric Power, an energy company with a balanced portfolio of energy assets, owns and operates more than 42,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States and select international markets and is one of the largest electricity generators in the United States.
