First experience with movers. ...

First experience with movers. They showed up on time, were very professional, packed furniture up nicely, and expedited the first stage of the move quickly and efficiently.

The downside - they started to really slow down towards the end of unloading the truck. This part of the move was significantly slower than the first half. Were they just tired or just trying to squeeze an extra 30 minutes / 75 dollars out of us? I'd say the latter to be quite honest.

These two men are the best. I've used them twice to move some display cases between Marin and the City, including some very expensive-to-replace huge pieces of glass, and their work was excellent both times, in and out with little fuss and lots of care. They arrive on time and finish in the projected amount of time too. Very professional, courteous, friendly and personable. These are not your run-of-the-mill muscle-goons; in fact you wouldn't be ashamed to introduce them to your persnickitty , old-world granny! And, they made good on their estimate, which was reasonable.

Opposable thumbs up!

Sunstate Movers rock. They are fast, careful, super nice and very reliable. We've used them twice so far and will definitely repeat.

Don't pick a mover based on hourly rate. These guys are not rock bottom in terms of rates, but they are so fast (and careful) that the all-in cost and experience was definitely worth it.

Sunstate Movers: A Tale of Woe

My experience with Sunstate Movers has been the worst experience of my life. They were scheduled to pick up my stuff on June 17th between 8:00 and 10:00 AM for my move from Florida to Colorado for an estimated price of $1604.00. They arrived promptly at 11:45 AM. AFTER loading everything I own onto their truck their foreman told me that their initial estimate was off and that the final charge would be $4632.78 which included an additional charge of $893.50 for packing materials. I packed almost everything myself and this packing charge covered some additional boxes, bubble wrap and tape to protect my things.

My scheduled delivery date was June 21st. I was told that they hit their scheduled delivery date 90% of the time. I called their one customer service representative on Monday June 21st and she told me that my things would be there at the end of the week and that the driver would call me the night beforehand to let me know when. At the end of the week I called the customer service representative again and she told me that there had been a delay and that the driver would call me early next week to let me know when he was going to deliver my things. The customer service representative repeated this circular lie to me continually over the next FOUR WEEKS. First I was told that July 4th would be the last possible delivery date. She then told me that they had until July 8th to deliver my stuff. When it didn’t arrive by that date I was told that in the fine print of the contract they have TWENTY ONE BUISNESS DAYS to deliver my stuff (that’s over a month). I was told July 14th would be the latest possible day. Finally on July 16th at 8:30 AM I was called by the driver to let me know that he would be at my house at 10:00 AM. I found out from him that my stuff didn’t leave the warehouse until July 13th. This means that the customer service representative lied to me for 4 weeks telling me that a driver would call me when they knew that my stuff was sitting in a warehouse and wasn’t going to me moved until mid July.

When everything I owned finally arrived I discovered that many of the furniture items protected by the $893.50 worth of packing material were damaged, scratched, dented or broken. They managed to shatter every plate I own. They taped shut the drawers of my furniture so that when you take the tape off, it takes the finish off. For some bizarre reason they shipped my TV and computer monitor FedEx, despite this not being anywhere in the contract (they arrived July 20th). When I got my 37’’ LCD TV the screen was broken. In a beautiful coincidence the only box they “lost” was my Playstation 3. They have now told me that their “insurance” covers $0.60 per pound. This means “lost” Playstation 3 gets me about $6.00 and broken TV gets me $24.00.

Over the course of this ordeal I have been lied to, cheated, and stolen from. It took me an average of 3 days to get in touch with someone from their company during this process. I finally started calling from other phones because I believe they were screening out my calls (it worked by the way). I have never complained about a company or service in my life, but I firmly believe that Sunstate Movers is a crooked, lying, scam organization. The moral of this story: NEVER USE THIS COMPANY!

1) They arraived more then a week late becouse "Thay couldn't find a truck".

2) Lost my luggage and almost all my boxes are smushed and dusted.

3) They did about $3,000 worth of damage to my stuff and only agreed to pay $50 for replace.

It was the absolute worst moving experience ever!

Great movers!

Sunstate Movers moved my two bedroom condo in April and did a great job. The guys work very hard and fast, professionally wrapping any breakable items (mirros, pictures, tv's) and handling them with care. They even helped me rearrange my furniture in my new place after I changed my mind on where I wanted stuff! I would recommend them to others and will use them again in the future.

Movers Left You Cold....

On 6/19/09, I contacted Yoshi at Sunstate to confirm my move on 6/20 and advised my new cell # for the third time after emailing previously. Everything confirmed - I was advised to expect a call on Sat 6/20 with a move time b/w 11am and 1pm. At 1:15pm, the drivers arrive and advise they were not given the new #. This was the start of only some issues. The driver then did not receive information that it was actually one move but 2 stops and had to contact Yoshi back. Before contacting Yoshi, the male driver advised it would be more than $300. (I already paid the $50 deposit and owed a balance of $218) I was advised it would be 2 moves and 2 fees and it could not happen that day. The main driver, unknown black male, advised they would move only one of us - I advised that was fine. I did advise I would tip the drivers $60 as I was originally quoted 2 drivers. Yoshi did advise on Friday that he would be sending 3-4 drivers due to the workload and 3 showed up expecting more money. My contract stated 3 hours and that is what I paid for. After the other 2 guys showed up, they looked at my items for 10 minutes, not sure why and then began to move. They took one piece of furniture down and sat at the bottom of the stairs while they proceeded to open the truck. I noticed Dan or Steve (Latin guy) on the cell phone at the truck and was not very impressed so I did make a comment to the main driver that I was not paying for him to be on the cell phone and I was paying for 3 hours. He advised the guys of this and they were overheard by a friend of mine that it was not worth $30 and were leaving. I came downstairs to find the guys moving my furniture (one piece) back up and were leaving. They advised they were hot and tired from a Miami trip and was not in the mood for an attitude. Grant you the cell phone call was ok even though I am paying for 3 hours! I attempted to resolve this dispute by talking to them and asking they reconsider which they did not. They advised the "boss" there was a dispute that was unresolved and they wanted to leave which the boss said go. 1 - I paid a deposit to Sunstate of $50 to move my items, 2 - I sent several emails and confirmed that my phone # had changed, 3 - I called numerous times only to find their voicemail is full, even full again on Saturday when I attempted to call the company myself, 4 - I chose Sunstate out of 8 companies based on testimonials and research and expected great customer service, not attitude of people showing up late, not wanting to be there to start with, 5 - the company left me and my roommate stranded after days of planning and disassembly of items such as aquarium, beds, etc. Everything was done for them. On a positive note, I was able to secure another move, Central Florida Movers within only 1.5 hours at a cheaper price and these guys showed up early, shook my hand, didnt discuss TIPS, and started moving instantly. They were even observed RUNNING back from the truck to my apt. You can advise Dan/Steve that I tipped these guys $100, not $60 because they WORKED, not goofed off. I was moved to a new place within only 2 hours, not 3 for less price and definitely less stress. Thanks Sunstate - I will never suggest a referral to anyone to use your company. The trust is definately not there and the service is more than lacking. Your main guy even said, "I need to find a new job man". You call that service???
