Organized in 1946 as Upper Grand River Electric Association, the company became Grand Electric Cooperative Inc. in 1950. The organization sells, delivers and installs various types of appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, microwaves, washers and dryers among others. It serves approximately 10,000 square miles of northwestern South Dakota and serves more than seven counties, including Butte, Corson, Harding, Meade, Perkins, Ziebach in South Dakota and part of Carter County in Montana. Grand Electric Cooperative Inc. also provides various kinds of heating and cooling systems, such as central heating and cooling systems, window units, electric space heating, etc.
