Italian with a different take

We have eaten at Cafe Italia several times, and although we are not always thrilled with our meals, we've found this restaurant to be solid. They offer Italian cuisine with a unique take. Their desserts are GREAT, and we sometimes hit Cafe Italia for dessert after eating dinner at another downtown spot. I like most every entre I've tried, which is rare for me for any restaurant. The caesar salad is a chunk of romaine with a baked cheese ring around it, NOT all that easy to eat, but it IS unique. If you're tired of Carinos, Macaroni Grill and Olive Garden, then Give Cafe Italia a try, you will enjoy the difference.

Lovely dining experience

My husband and I enjoy our meals each time we visit. The menu changes seasonally while keeping a few favorites on the permanent menu. I make it a point to always try the seasonal risotto and have never been disappointed. The signature dessert is panna cotta. He has offered a peanut butter panna cotta, an apple variation, and a strawberry-balsamic option. Delicious!

Eater

My wife and I ate here because it was quiet and comfortable compared to the "trendy" place down the street. We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Will certainly return.

The best Italian outside of Little Italy.

The ambiance, the food, the wine, the staff, the food, the decor, the food, the food, oh yeah...the food. This place is so amazingly delicious you will not be dissatisfied. The kitchen is full of young eager chefs, the menu changes seasonally with AMAZING ingredients (where else in Billings can you get your hands on escargot), the level of creativity is eye popping. This is food as art.

The staff are so knowledgeable and upbeat, they really know how to cater to a diner. They are happy to accomodate too. I came in with four people and two others asked to join twenty minutes later and they made room, moved tables, and our food came out just like we'd all been seated at the exact same moment.

The decor and atmosphere are great. You don't find places like this outside Mulberry Street in New York very often.

I could eat the meatballs here every single day.

AND, the executive chef is on the line cooking every night, not sitting at a desk crunching numbers and reading recipes online.

You have to eat here. You will walk away happy.

Excellent Trattoria

A few weeks after a month spent in northern Italy I took my daughter out to Cafe Italia. We decided to try one of our favorites from the Veneto, wild mushrooms. After one bite my daugher exclaimed, "De ja vu!" Attentive service complemented the meal along with the small, but well considered wine list. As good as Enzo's used to be.

Horrible food and prices

I had always wanted to try Cafe Italia because it looked like a cute little place to try. Inside it was nicely decorated and had a nice atmosphere. Service was just average. I knew things would go downhill after looking I at the menu. We decided to order two dishes the veggie lasanga ($14) and the mushroom ragot. The waiter informed us they were out of the mushroom ragot. First of all, how could they have been "out" if I got there right when the cafe opened? Anyway, we ordered the chicken piccata ($18) instead. (I think the lowest price item was $14). The lasagna was swimming in olive oil and it was only about 2x3 inches big (or small I should say). The eggplant inside of it was completely burnt, and there was something else that had a tang to it but I could not determine what it was. There was no real italian seasoning flavor at all-just greasy and burnt. The chicken piccata was just gross. It was a quarter chicken stuffed with pancetta and artichokes. It was completely fatt

The decor and ambiance of the ...

The decor and ambiance of the restaurant are beautiful. The beer and wine lists are excellent. Service was exceptional, but most of all the food is UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! By far the best Italian in this town since the old days of Vinnie's Italian Kitchen back in the mid nineties. They even have one of Vinnie's old dishes on the menu, Vinnie's Chicken Piccata. The red sauce is mind boggling, 1st rate! Try the homemade pork and veal stuffed raviolis. To die for! I also have found a new fine dining experience that I will be back for time and time again!

Wow!!!!!

Had dinner at Cafe Italia last night, it was awesome. If you like mushrooms, please order the Wild Mushroom Ragout. Have a new favorite restaurant in Billings. I hope they are able to make it in this economy. Sorry I could only try one thing on the menu, but will be going back often.

I am a chef in billings and this is the best italian food this town has seen. The traditional sauces are superb. I am very impressed with the ambiance as well.
