History of the BGC Founded on May 24, 1920 at the Berwick YMCA with 64 members. The site committee had decided the location should be near the trolley line and the committee reported the Ed Kocher farm below Briar Creek Township was available for $8, 000. The name "Berwick Golf Club" was selected. On June 4, 1920 golf course expert Mr. Clark said a 9 hole golf course would need 45 acres of land. A motion was passed to purchase the Kocher farm for $8, 000 and the board was to secure options on 20 adjoining acres. August 20, 1920 a motion to rescind the purchase of the Kocher farm was passed and the next was to purchase the C.C. Evans farm of 99 acres located on Martzville Road for $10, 000 which included a house, barn and sheds. The Articles of Incorporation were filed September 3, 1920 and approved by the Court on October 2, 1920. On October 18, 1920 a report was given that course designer, Franklin Meehan, had laid out 9 holes and that 9 greens were leveled and seeded. Addition land was purchased throughout the years and the Berwick Golf Club was expanded to an 18 hole layout in 1959.
