I worked with and homeowner who's roof was replaced by AM-1 Roofing several years earlier. According to the construction contract (which I viewed), AM-1 had promised to install ice and water shield along the eaves, up the valleys, and on the hips and ridges. Frankly, there is no good reason to install ice and water shied on hips and ridges but regardless, upon inspecting the installation I found that NO ice and water shield had been installed. They had simply installed a heavy (cheap) underlayment instead called UDL 501. In order to be considered an ice and water barrier they would have had to fully adhere the materail with roofing cement which they did not. I have since heard from multiple reliable sources that AM-1 makes a common practice of this denies this to the end.
