Beech Grove Police Department offers a wide variety of services to the residents of Beech Grove, Ind. The department s services include Unattended House and shop-with-a-cop program. The annual shop-with-a-cop program is held during the Christmas season and is funded by donations by individuals, businesses and civic organizations. It started the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in 1994. The DARE program is presented by a trained police officer and covers a number of safety concerns, such as say-no-to-drugs, resisting peer pressure and avoiding gangs and violence. Shorter programs are offered to lower grades during the school year. DARE was originally developed in 1984 by the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Police Department. It is now taught throughout the United States. Beech Grove Police Department has presented this program to more than 600 children.
