I never thought this kind of r...

I never thought this kind of restaurant would be in Baltimore. I reminded of something out of LA or Miami not Baltimore. But the food was great and the service was dead on. Only thing I could say is that it was a bit of a wait but it was worth the wait considering it had to be one of the best bars I ever sat in!!! But over all I really liked the place and I will return!

The restaurant owner (who goes...

The restaurant owner (who goes by Smitty) and his manager-wife (Missy) have no clue how to properly deal with customers, much less run a successful restaurant. Milan was set to host a family party for over 100 guests, with the party going from 8 pm to 1 am. However, they thought it was a wise idea to have a party of 20+ come in at 7pm and have their meal right where our party was supposed to go down. The party of 20 didn't leave until after 9 pm and because of this, our party didn't start until much later than it was supposed to (even though out contract clearly stated a start time of 8 pm). When confronting 'Smitty,' I had to go track him down in the restaurant because apparently his employees were too busy to do this when I asked them to. He stated that we had to wait until the other party was finished and even though we had paid a sizable amount of money to have Milan host our event, 'we hadn't finished paying it all yet.' He also charged our guests for drinks and admission to his establishment even though tickets to our event had already been sold. Although we made the best of what happened and still had a great time, it was in NO PART due to Smitty, Missy, and Milan. I would highly recommend never going there for anything. Hopefully they will go out of business soon.

Nice setting, however the food...

Nice setting, however the food was subpar and expensive, there were rips and tears in the ikea chairs, the chairs and tables were wobbly, and the waitstaff was inexperienced. It took 20-30 minutes between each serving of salad, appetizer, entree and to make matters worst the food was cold! I will not be going back.

Went here for dinner last nigh...

Went here for dinner last night after purchasing a Groupon a few months ago. Have to say the food was excellent (I got the shrimp and scallop polenta and my bf had the seafood stew). Portions were generous. Wine list was a bit pricey. Our waitress was friendly, but food service was a bit slow. It took nearly 20mins for appetizers to come out (but they were delicious, so it was forgiven).

Only major complaint I can have is that at first glance the place seems glamorous, but once you look into the details it definitely needs an update. The back of my chair was a bit beat up, both my wine glass and one of the appetizer plates had a chip on the edge, the outdoor bar/lounge area has some sort of serving station that seems to be made of whitewashed particle board.

If the food hadn't been so good, I probably would have cut my rating in half. Also, fyi, we went on a Thursday night and the place was basically empty. Some of the other reviews on here complain about it being packed, but last night it was the exact opposite.

Unethical Business Pratices

Living and working in D.C. I rarely have an occasion to travel to Baltimore on the weekend. It was on one of these rare occasions that I visited Milan. The restaurant lounge had a funky look and odd smell when you entered the door. Not sure what that was about, but the place appeared to be clean. We were greeted by a server promptly and order drinks, which arrive expeditiously and were great. The food was good, not great the calamari over cooked and the pieces were small and cooked to long. The flatbread pizza was nice and had tremendous flavor, I would recommend.

When the server presented the check she did not provide me with an itemized receipt. She seemed surprised when I asked for the itemized receipt; I had already signed my check and added a 22% tip. When she gave me the itemized receipt there was a 20% gratuity added to the total for a party of two people. Hold up wait one minute, there was nothing on the menus that stated there was an automatic 20% gratuity added to all checks after 9:00PM. I thought policies that automatically add money to your checks have to be posted. The credit card receipt she gave me did not indicate the gratuity had been added. I not knowing added an additional $12 making the total gratuity on a less than $50 check over $23.

The only reason I became aware of this unethical business practice is because I asked for the itemized receipt. During the course of an evening how many people do you think Milan scams? Lesson learned we all work to hard for our money and it’s sad to know that people are working just as hard to take it away. It’s unfortunate that when go out and spend money that they are subject to these UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICE. My word to the wise is always get an itemized receipt, check it for errors, it does make you look cheap, but make you look fiscally responsible.

Worst experience

I recently (just a couple hours ago) went to a private party at Milan for a friends birthday. The birthday girl was told that she would have to share her party with a Baltimore Raven party as well. What they didn't tell us was that on top of our two parties they were going to allow any and everyone off the street to come in too (for a PRICE).

The place was so crowded that you could barely walk (shocked they didn't get shut down for fire code violations), the waitresses could barely do their jobs because they barely could get to the bar. So most of us were without drinks unless we wanted to brave the 30 min walk of 2 feet of space from the area we were and the bar.

The owner talked to my friend ONCE and said that he would fix things and then was never heard from again until well after closing and my friend wanted to talk to him about the lousy service and all the wrong things with the bill.

To say he was unprofessional would be putting it mildly. Not only did he tell us that there was nothing he could do he proceeded to give excuse after excuse for all the things that went wrong that had nothing to do with our party. This joke of an owner yelled at his staff in front of us.. cussing one of them out for trying to help us, he also when confronted with one of our party calling him unprofessional he response was you yelled at me. After all of this he told us we couldn't pay the bill of several hundred dollars with a credit card we could only pay cash.

I would NEVER return to this place or even suggest it to anyone.

Worst Resturant Ever!!!!!

Still pissed about my horrifying experience @ Milan. I do not support pretentious establishments. Customer service is everything and that is something they do not specialize in. All they offer is a "CUTE" establishment/venue and that's not enough for me. At 6:30 there were no seats @ the bar, but there were plenty other seats. We were told we could not sit in any of them b/c you had to buy a $100 bottle. I'm thinking it's 6:30 pm on a Monday night are you kidding me. Our only option was to go upstairs and you had to buy an entrée. We were there for a charity event/ happy hour not DINNER. It took 2 hours NOT to get food. Waiter didn't have a clue. I had to go get the manager. The manager said all they could do was bring the food and take a percentage off (smh). We gave her a blank stare. She then asked "well what else do you want me to do." I'm thinking ummm @ this point you need to be doing anything possible to keep me here and have me come back (smh). I work too damn hard to go to dinner @ a wanna be NY/LA venue that's half empty to wait 2 hours for mediocre food on a Monday night. My sister spoke with the owner @ the end of the night and he could care less. That is unacceptable!!!!!

Stay Away From Milan

Do NOT go to Milan for a special occasion. They ruined my 35th birthday party celebration in every way that you could possibly imagine. For starters we had dinner reservations for 9:30 pm and they did not seat us until after 11 pm. Not only did they not seat us, but they had 25 guests standing in the lobby, they didn't even offer a place to sit. They could have easily put us on a few sofas and ordered us some appetizers, but instead they were rude, unorganized and kept lying to us that it would be just 10 more minutes. Around 10:30 pm I was so hungry I was about to pass out, I asked a bartender if I could order an appetizer to hold me until our table was ready, and she refused me stating that if I was waiting for a table upstairs I was not allowed to order food downstairs because they can't tell how long it is going to take. Ridiculous. Then once seated upstairs after waiting in the lobby for almost 2 hours we are greeted by noone. We complain 3 times that noone has been to the table and finally a server arrives after about 15 minutes. We order drinks and appetizers and after about 30 minutes we began to receive some water at half of the table (guess we were supposed to share) and eventually some bread. Our non-water drinks took over an hour to be served (even though there is a bar upstairs that apparently cannot be used even for water) and they arrived in trifling dirty crusted glasses with no apologies. Appetizers took over an hour. Around 12:30 am we began receiving cold incomplete food and again nothing was done to try and make us happy. Needless to say by now I am just ready to leave. I go downstairs and tell the bar manager how unhappy and dissatisfied we are and that we want to leave. He replies that Smitty (the owner) has left the building and we need to wait for him to return. What kind of owner leaves when he has 25 furious guests. I have worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and when you have a party that had to wait for almost 2 hours past their reservation you first try and make them comfortable while they are waiting, then once seated you greet them with bread and water immediately, then you hop in the kitchen and make sure that their food comes out fast, hot and correct. None of these things were done to any degree. By 1:00 am we are tired, hungry and totally through with this joke of a place and just want to go home. We beg the server to get whatever he needs to get together so we can go home. He replies that Smitty has left the building and he is the only one with a manager card. After waiting for over an hour for the check we finally leave because we are starving, tired and utterly disappointed. The owner Smitty refused to take any of the food off the check that was never delivered to the table and/or never eaten because it was cold, burnt, or just plain gross. He threatened to have us arrested if we didn't pay for the food even though it wasn't eaten. He said that he has a baby to feed and that he doesn't care that we didn't have a good time all he cared about was getting his money. I would like to warn everyone, Milan may be pretty to look at, but it is run by an immature, inexperienced boy who cares nothing about customer service or satisfied guests. I have heard about other special occasions that had similar bad experiences there, I just only wish I had heard about them sooner. I just hope I can save at least one person from having their hopes of a decent night crushed, whatever you do STAY AWAY FROM MILAN and you might have a good time

FANTASTIC

The Rib Eye Steak was as good, if not better than any I have eaten in Baltimore's best steak houses! The atmosphere is unique and appealing. Perfect for impressing a date or client.
