The orange chicken and the chow mein that I had today (first and last visit) was bland and tasteless. It was a free lunch put on by my employer or I would have refused to pay for it. Plus the guest sitting next to me found a hair in her food. It was by far the worst Chinese restaurant I have visited.

Disgusting restaurant !!

Avoid

The food is good even though we did not get all that we ordered. The service is horrid. We got seated after a group of ten people and before four smaller tables (4 to 1 people). We were served after all of them. The last of the four tables was seated about fifteen minutes after us. The group of ten left a minute after we had gotten our food. We will never come here again and will let everyone we know about the bad experience. They didn't even offer a discount or anything. We paid full price and had to wait ten minutes for the server to come pick up our payment. Never got refills or checked on.

If you get the chance, order the ALAN chowmein, (not on the menu). Sit in the bar and listen to story's from Joaquin, who has been working at this same place for 25 years. Sometimes it seems like they named the San Joaquin valley after him instead of the other way around...... Great place, great food......

Why is this place so popular?

The service was awful. The food was worse. It tastesd as if prepared with toilet water. I thouught restaurants are mandated to use filtered water only!

Real Chinese Food

Rice bowl is one of three chinese restaurants in Bakersfield that I know of that actually serves real chow mien not low mien. When I order chow mien at a Chinese restaurant and the server brings out a bunch of fat brown noodles Its like a slap in the face. If I wanted Low mien I would go to panda express. If you want actual Chinese food thats good then go to rice bowl.

should be called grease bowl

I ordered take-out and when we got home, it was in plastic containers and so full of grease it made all our stomaches upset. The vegetables looked and tasted like canned chow mein, the shrimp dripped grease!!! Our "pork" fried rice looked like greasy lunch meat tossed in leftover rice, no flavor and yes we were ill from the ingesting of so much oil, or lard. Not one person in our family ate more than a few spoonfuls before the nausea set in, I should have returned the uneaten ( most of the entire order) portion and got a refund, save your money and stomach and go somewhere else, this is gross!!!!
