My boyfriend and I stopped by ...

My boyfriend and I stopped by this place on a whim one night, and we were really glad we did! It's pretty small so you might miss it from the road, but you can't miss the drool-inducing smell of brisket smoking.

The restaurant is family owned and operated. The grandma, a spunky and sweet woman, took our orders and made some recommendations while her grandsons worked the cash register and sliced our meat. The place just oozes family warmness and hospitality.

The brisket was nice and moist with plenty of self-serve sauce, onions and pickles. We also got an order of ribs. SO good! I mean, I'm a sucker for ribs, but they all had plenty of meat on them and were seasoned just enough to enhance the delicious flavors already present but not mask any of them. I really appreciated that even though we came in pretty close to closing time all of the meat was hot off the smoker.

All of the side dishes came in portions bigger than I could eat (yay leftovers!) and the banana pudding was a perfect ending note to the meal. Oh, and endless Dr Pepper from the fountain was a definite plus.

I wish there had been a couple more options on the menu and that it was open later, but overall I really liked The Pit. Very reasonable prices, sweet family hospitality and freshly made food were well worth the visit!
