Ophthalmologist Dr. Thomas Henderson was born in Kansas and raised in Texas. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Louisiana State University located in Baton Rouge. In 1973 he earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Dr. Henderson went on to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston to complete his residency in Ophthalmology in 1979.Dr. Henderson became American Board of Ophthalmology Certified in 1980 and has practiced ophthalmology in Texas for over thirty years. In 1982 he founded the Eye Clinic of Austin, currently located at 3410 Far West Blvd.From 1995 to 2003 he served as Chief of Staff for HealthSouth Surgical Hospital (now Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital). Dr. Henderson was Chief of Ophthalmology from 1988 to 1990 and then from 1997 to 1999 at St. Davids Medical Center.Dr. Henderson has performed over 11,000 LASIK and cataract procedures. He is skilled in alternative vision correction technologies such as laser cataract surgery and premium lens replacement, corneal transplant surgery, and surgical treatment of glaucoma with SLT laser or with iStent, Trabectome, Canaloplasty, and ExPRESS mini shunt.Dr. Henderson is a member of the major national ophthalmology societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the American College of Eye Surgeons. He attends two to three major educational meetings yearly to stay at the cutting edge of ophthalmology. He has been a speaker for Allergan, Ista and a Phase II and Phase III drug investigator for Ista, Alcon, Allergan and Bausch & Lomb.Since 1996 Dr. Henderson has annually been awarded the honor of being one of the Best Doctors of America (only about five percent of doctors in the US are named in any given year).
