Translational biomedical research promises to turn new medical discoveries into tangible cures and Saint Joseph's Research Institute (SJRI) is at the forefront of this new paradigm. Groundbreaking research already is underway using tissue engineering, cell therapy and gene therapy with the potential to dramatically improve patient outcomes. In the future these discoveries will move rapidly from the laboratory to clinical trials, providing "bench to bedside" care so that patients can receive the very best protocols, devices and pharmaceuticals for treatment - fast. Saint Joseph's is committed to being a leader in the field of translational research, conducting pre-clinical and clinical research and trials, education and data outcomes analysis. Treatments will be developed sooner, in a context where they can be used better. Saint Joseph's also will play an important role in training physicians on how to use emerging treatments and devices. Conversely, collaboration among scientists and physicians will enable researchers to identify patient needs at the bedside and work on solutions in the lab to meet them.
