Established in 1837, the Atlanta Police Department- Office of Professional Standards (OPS) is responsible for the internal security of the Atlanta Police Department. It is comprised of internal affairs, advocacy and corruption units. The police department supports a cadet program that educates youths to learn tactics, procedures, laws and other daily duties of police officers. Located in Atlanta, the Atlanta Police Department also operates a citizens police academy that hosts classes to increase awareness about the operation and services of the police department for the residents of Atlanta. It maintains criminal investigations, supports services, and field operations and inspections divisions, as well as a division of taxicabs and vehicles for hire.
