Maria has some very serious ethics issues and I suspect some personal issues with men as well. She was first referred to me by a friend who knew her as his therapist. Eventually I convinced my wife to change therapists and Maria very willingly agreed to see her also, so she was my therapist and at the same time also my wife's therapist. We saw her FIVE times per week (my individual session, my wife's individual session, each of our individual group sessions, and our couples session) which was ongoing for several years. At some point in time Maria and I discussed some personal sensitive issues, some of which Maria passed personal judgement on, and shortly thereafter abruptly terminated my sessions. Within two weeks after that incident my wife filed for divorce. This woman, in effect, used personal information that I discussed with her in confidence to influence my wife to end our 32-year relationship. In addition taking on my wife as a client (obviously a conflict with regard to my therapy) she essentially abandoned me as a client without making any effort at referring me for followup care. In retrospect the Board of Behavior Sciences should have been made aware of this practitioner's unethical conduct and probably professional liability counsel retained.
