Dr. Wheeler is a wonderful endocrinologist! Im going to overshare so you can understand why I fly from FL to GA just for my appointments each year to continue to see Dr. Wheeler. She’s worth it; my health is worth it.

Id been an athlete all my life. I worked out 6 days a week, eat clean by choice and cared for myself (no drugs, drinking, good sleep etc).

But, in 2011, I got a general physical at the doctors office in Fl, where I lived at that time, and bloodwork was off on TSH & was sent to a specialist who diagnosed me with Hashimotos hypothyroidism. Over the course three years, I went from specialist the specialist to help me figure out why my body was not functioning properly because I was still eating clean, working out 6days/week and I went from 98lbs to 132lbs and this was dangerous especially because I’m only 4’10”. I was gaining weight (not mass, but cellulite). I felt exhausted all the time, had night sweats, remained cold (hands and feet) all the time, felt short fused, and more. The other specialist would focus on thyroid panel levels or an ultrasound of the thyroid. I was desperate to feel like myself again especially because my short fuse was causing problems in my marriage.

In 2014, I moved to GA from FL for work & again researching Endocrinologists. I was running out of meds, but knew I needed still needed someone to help me once & for all. I found an article on Dr. Wheeler being one of the top Endos in the country. The article was spot on. She’s so sought after that her appointments are booked out 9+months. Yet her staff worked quickly to get me in because I was new to the ATL and was nearly out of thyroid medicine trying to get appointments with Endos.

She took her time when she was in with me; she sat and patiently asked questions about my health, changes, performed a thorough exam. As I shared my health struggles, I cried because no one was figuring out what was wrong. She had me describe in detail everything that I’d been experiencing. She drew out what was happening between different areas of my body (female). She assured me she’d get to the bottom of it and get be back to feeling better.

Dr. Wheeler did extensive bloodwork and found what no others had: my pituitary levels were throw the roof. My body thought I was pregnant; it was storing weight for a baby that was not there! She quickly got me on medicine to reduce the levels to normal range. She made a medical game plan for me, but was honest. She cautioned that thyroid issues don’t get fixed overnight, but she’d do all she could to help me get back on track as quickly as possible.

She talked to me about the game plan & options. She asked me what I wanted to do about different aspects of the plan. She cared that I preferred not to take prescription medicines and more. She shared options on changing my dietary plan to see if my thyroid issues were due to food allergens, she encouraged me to consider changing my approach to workouts (from HIIT/Cardio style to low impact with strength training). As she did her part, I did mine and within 6months I was feeling like myself again, started losing the weight, sleeping through the night, body temp regulated, etc.

In 2016, I moved back to FL, but I couldn’t chance all my efforts going down the drain because I’d forever have to maintain & take medicine for my thyroid. I’d lost the weight and I felt amazing. So I decided no matter what my health was worth flying roundtrip from FL to GA, taking uber rides and staying in hotel twice a year to maintain my health. Dr. Wheeler was & is worth it. She doesn’t rush through, let’s you talk and listens. She cares about your wants & needs. She has God given wisdom, knowledge and care for others. She’s incredible and I am forever grateful and thankful I found her.
