Founded in 1970, the Georgia Poison Center provides assistance and expertise in the medical diagnosis and management of human and animal poisonings. It provides a range of services to parents, child care providers, pharmacists, nurses and doctors. The center offers educational services to health care professionals in the areas of clinical toxicology, poison prevention, poisoning epidemiology, and toxicological diagnosis and care. It provides a 24-hour poison emergency information service. Georgia Poison Center offers protocol-driven treatment and prevention advice for animal bites and rabies exposures. It works in alliance with the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. The center additionally provides online information related to common poisons. It is certified by the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
