The Special Operations Section is a part of the Atlanta Police Department, which is administered by the city government of Atlanta in Georgia. The section provides a variety of patrol support services through more than five patrol zones. Its special weapons and tactics unit handles matters related to hostage, barricaded gunman and bomb disposal. The Special Operations Section s traffic unit specializes in the enforcement of traffic laws and manages the flow of vehicular pedestrian traffic. The section s hit and run unit deals in the investigation of issues, such as fatal and hit-and-run traffic accidents. In addition, its helicopter unit is used to assist the patrol units in stolen vehicle recovery and traffic flow management-related issues.
