The Atlanta Housing Authority, a nonprofit organization organized under Georgia law, acquires, develops, leases and operates affordable housing for low-income families in the greater Atlanta area. The organization is the one of the largest housing agencies in the United States and serves approximately 50,000 people. The Atlanta Housing Authority created the financial and legal model for mixed-income, mixed-finance transactions that are used by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOPE VI revitalization program. The organization has developed nearly 10 mixed-income, public-assisted communities through its nationally recognized Olympic Legacy program. The Atlanta Housing Authority has a yearly operating budget of more than $100 million and maintains its headquarters in Atlanta.
