The Athens Police Department addresses issues related to law enforcement. It operates patrol, investigation and traffic divisions. The department s detective division handles cases of rape, accidents, child abuse, drug possession, bombing incidents and criminal damage to property. The Athens Police Department also maintains a communication division that answers emergency and nonemergency calls for police, fire and medical services. It hosts a citizens police academy that provides various opportunities to citizens to participate in the department s operations. The department employs more than 60 full- and part-time sworn officers and community volunteers. The Athens Police Department is located in Athens, Tenn.
