We had used this Charter service several times in the past with no issue. However after a recent experience I will be taking my business elsewhere. On this particular day the entire charter's fleet went Salmon fishing in the ocean with the exception of the boat that we were on. We were told that we would be fishing the river and that it would be slow but that we would be "catching some damn big fish." Prior to leaving the dock the captain stomped around the dock and boat saying that we were going "to fish the river and that it was going to suck." That it did. After speaking with the other boat captain and deckhands we were all made aware at how great the ocean fishing was and how ridiculous it was for anyone to sit in the river and fish that day. Everyone asked the captain and deckhands why we couldn't go fish the ocean and they all seemed to avoid response. It was later revealed that the boats captain was the son of the owner and that he was to intimidated of the ocean to put his customers on the fish. Instead we sat on the river, 10 poles in the water for eaight hours and ZERO bites let alone any fish. To rub salt on the wound the captain had to let everyone know halfway through our day that the rest of the fleet was on their way back in from the Ocean with their limits (one boat with 40 fish!!). 18 years as a boat captain and he claims that he has never returned to the dock without fish. To try and salvage the day and reputation he took us to his Sturgeon fishing grounds, overly-confident in puting us on some kind of fish....still nothing. Needless to say when we got to the dock everyone could not get off the boat fast enough. Later that afternoon I called the owner to explain everyone's frustration...If you are a Charter service it is expected that you will do the best you can to put your customers on the fish. Knowing ahead of time that river fishing was slow why would you not change course and follow suit with the rest of the fleet and put all of your boats in the Ocean? Everyone gets their fish, you burn less fuel looking for the fish, and you have a satisfied clientele. The 38 foot boat was more than sea worthy in even the most challenging ocean conditions. The only thing keeping us off the fish was the lack of experience in their boat captain. I asked the owner if he could offer us some sort of discount on a future trip to make up for the poor experience. After yelling profanities and inappropriate insults ("tell me...do you still suck your thumb....."), the owner eventually hung up on me. I was dumbfounded at how someone could be so unprofessional, especially a business owner. I never said anything to insult the man and also explained to him that I was just trying to help him improve his customer satisfaction by voicing the frustration of everyone that day. I will never patronize this charter service again.
