The Amtrak rail station in Ann Arbor is small of course, but it is sufficient. Located in the north end of the Kerrytown neighborhood it is convenient to downtown as well as the University of Michigan Medical Center. Vending machines with coffee drinks and snacks are located in the waiting lounge. The staff is helpful and will be able to give you fairly good estimates of trains' actual expected arrival times, as the trains often run several minutes behind schedule. You can also check the Amtrak website which provides train status and expected arrival times. From Ann Arbor, trains run east toward Detroit and west toward Chicago. Ticket cost is affordable but not a terrific bargain. Seating on the train is very spacious and reasonably comfortable. Drinks and snacks are available in the café car.
