The company with the 56-foot band saw out front was founded by Austrian immigrant Christian Ganahl Lumber Company in Los Angeles, in 1884. Ganahl only sold lumber and cement upon opening. Mr. Ganahl opened a second lumberyard in Anaheim, Calif., in 1904 and added plywood to its product line two years later. Ganahl Lumber continued to add locations throughout southern California. The company made it through the depression selling products to movie stars to build summer homes. Ganahl Lumber continued to broaden its product line by adding hardware in 1930 and millwork in the late 1940s. Now, the company has more than eight locations and carries hardware, doors and windows and electrical, plumbing and hardware products. Ganahl Lumber Company also offers a full line of construction lumber and decorative softwoods and hardwoods. The company s logo has become a 38,000-pound, 1910 band saw, which it acquired from a dismantled mill in 1962.
