I am a broke college student. I needed 4 new tires (and alignment) for my Mazda. I called for prices from about 5 different places in Ames, and Car-X was the cheapest. They even beat TireRack.They were expecting me when I arrived because I had called ahead. The whole service took around half an hour, and I was able to wait and watch TV.The price I paid was exactly what I was told it would be over the phone, so that's always nice.All in all, it was about as great an experience as I could have hoped for.

$50 to diag. the check eng. light and told me the cat. conv. was bad. Paid $1300 to replace it. A week later, the light is on again. Another shop says it's the O2 sensor and since the car was running fine before, I probably didn't have a bad cat. They cleared the code for free. A week later, the light is on again. When I call Car-X, manager claims he even 'looked at it with the mechanic' and determined it was bad. Called 3rd shop for another opinion. Both other shops said you generally can't tell a bad cat. by looking. 3rd also said I probably didn't have a bad cat. When getting the O2 sensor replaced, the mechanic tells me now both O2 sensors around the cat. are throwing codes. One looks to have been touched in the sensor area, which ruined it. I also had low coolant warning come on as I left Car-X, which wasn't on before I went there. Not seeing a leak, added more coolant and water. Been good for a month since. Can't prove one way or another, but I have my suspicions.
