Lehigh Valley International Airport, located in Allentown, Pa., is an air transportation hub that serves customers in a 12 county area in Eastern Pennsylvania and Northern New Jersey. LVIA traces its history to 1929, when the Allentown Chamber of Commerce purchased land in the center of the township for construction of an airport. In 1937, the City of Bethlehem, Pa., and later Easton, Pa., joined in the development. The airport was formerly named Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Airport, and in 1985, it expanded its scope of activities by becoming an international airport. In 1994, its name was changed to the Lehigh Valley International Airport. Airlines that serve LVIA include Air Canada, Continental, Delta, Hooters Air, Northwest, United, and US Airways.
