Dr. Shepherd took over Dr. Bussey's practice after he passed away. This was my first visit to Uptown Dental. Uptown Dental billed my insurance for a cleaning and a checkup even though I did not have a checkup. The hygienist said they would do the check up next time. I thought it was because they were running behind. When I called Uptown Dental I was informed their policy is to do a comprehensive check up on your second visit and bill insurance on your first visit since insurance will not pay for a comprehensive checkup after the initial visit. I said that was odd since that’s an assumption that 1) I would return and 2) my insurance has always paid for checkups in the past and as a new patient wouldn’t you want to perform a checkup on the first visit even if it’s not a comprehensive checkup. Couple of other things stood out, the front office staff behavior is condensing at best, I had to sign an estimate of future services I inquired about, and the office looks worn e.g. the hygienist chair arms looked dirty but were actually worn out. Now I have to spend more time and call my insurance company to tell them the bill from Uptown dental was incorrect.
