The Pima County Sheriff s Department, established in 1865, is a public safety agency that provides services for law enforcement and adult detention. It responds to calls for law enforcement services, preventive patrol, public assistance and criminal investigations. The Pima County Sheriff s Department operates an adult detention center that provides safe, secure and humane detention to arrestees charged with nonfederal crimes in Pima County, Ariz. The department also performs a variety of other special services, such as search and rescue and civil processes. With an office in Ajo, Ariz., the Pima County Sheriff s Department maintains operations, investigation, corrections and administrative bureaus. It employs more than 500 full-time sworn officers, over 350 community volunteers, and nearly 870 civilians and corrections personnel.
