Provided by YPmobileWent there a few days ago. All the animals were sick. Well. I would be to with the lack of A/C AND THE SMELL WAS JUST TERRIBLE!! This place should be shut down. Going to report them. They are not helping but causing issue with giving pets a good home. I myself rather be a stray on the street then be caged in there third world facility!!!

Provided by YP.comMy husband and I went to adopt a dog from the animal shelter named Jack. We visited and met with Jack the dog. My husband was diagnosed with Essential Tremors and wanted a dog that was good with him. And we thought that dog was Jack. We went home and talked things over looks up Jacks story on PAS website and then decided to put in an application for him.The one volunteer stated that the adoption counselor named Dorthy was not in and to come into the Shelter the day she was supposed to be in.We went in spoke with Dorthy about Jack and visited with Jack again and Dorthy told us she would let us know. And it wasn't on a first come first serve basis. She and she couldn't promise anything. if we were or were not going to get him. Didn't hear from them and seen that Jack was still on the list and a picture of him stating he was adoptable. So we took a ride to Parma animal shelter. The told us that he was already adopted. And they decided that he was not right for us. So we seen another dog that had been on the website a senior dog and named Red we called to see if he was avaliable to adopt and they Had Red on the website as loving and sweet and house trained with all shot and ready to adopt. Likes to be petted and walked. So we made an appointment to visit Red to see how he would react to my husband and I . Red was wonderful let my husband pet him and rub his belly and walk him and Red actually feel asleep by my husband. We wanted to pay the fee and adopt Red right there and then. Because, with out a doubt we knew he was the right dog for us. And we were the right ones to adopt him. And to give him a home. Yes we rent! But, we got signed papers by our landlord stating that we could have Red. And took them down to the shelter with us when we had the appointment to see another volunteer adoption counselor named Linda. She would not let us visit with Red and did not even look at the application and had told us your not getting him. Very rude and unprofessional. I asked her for her certificate of training to be a volunteer she said she didn't need one. I asked her why are you refusing him to us. she said we live in a no pet house. I said we got signed paper stating we are allowed to have him. And we are allowed cats so therefore we are allowed pets Then she proceeded to say well dogs can bite. I let one go and live with a person and it bit the owner. And we had to have it euthanized . I thought Parma was a non kill shelter. But, apparently not. My husband and I went home in tears and very angry. I could not sleep Because, now I am worried that they will put Red down. They aren't giving Red a chance to live in a wonderful home that someone would Love him and care for him. And makes us wonder did something happen to Red they didn't say was he hurt and covering up by not letting us see him. These people should not be allowed to play around with peoples emotions and needless to say make the decision who gets to adopt and who don't they are not professionals each person and animal have there good and bad days. No kill Shelter a downright lie! I would not even surrender any kind of pet or animal to them. They need to be locked up in cages themselves. Or spend two weeks in a shelter. Hoping and praying for someone to take them home and give them love and without a doubt they will give that love in returned. We would not even consider even adopting any dog if we had the fear of having to return then. they could of came to our home and done a background check.Poor Red. I can't trust Parma Animal Shelter and tax payer and donors are being ripped off. Is the money being pocketed> Very ignorant and rude people. That need training to how to deal with people and animals

Provided by YP.comAs I read some of these reviews, I have to say we don't agree with the lack of support for this shelter. We always hear good things about what these people do... save your poor reviews for the idiots who don't have their animals fixed and leave them running around the neighborhood mating with every dog or cat they come in contact with. What about the calls these people go on having to remove emaciated animals from idiots who starve their pets... you know the pets they supposedly love... spay or neuter your animal tomorrow to prevent more animals being put to sleep throughout our kennels, shelters or APL.

Provided by YPmobileI am really upset with this place right now, I went in on Sunday to look to adopt a dog because I had just put my rescue down due to old age. I fell in love with this husky puppy because it reminded me of my previous dog. I went back on Tuesday, after making sure I left work early and hassling my landlord to make sure I could get another dog. I was pretty much told

Provided by YP.comI have to agree with albuckwald. We have adopted from and have actively supported the Parma Animal shelter for years with supplies and monetary donations. We recently went there, on a Saturday to drop off a donation, and found an adorable pup that we wanted to adopt. We took time to do a meet and greet with the pup (on Sunday) and our 2 dogs (one of which we had adopted from Parma) and were told to come by for a 2nd meet and greet on Monday. I was delayed at work that day and after almost an hour of calling them (the line was busy the whole time) to let them know we weren't going to be able to come, I finally got through, explained what was happening to 1 volunteer, was transferred to another volunteer, explained again, and was then transferred to another volunteer who was pushy and rude. I tried telling them who we had been working with and that she had said the pup wouldn't be adopted out and we couldn't do a 2nd meet and greet until after he had surgery and she just didn't care. The pup was scheduled for surgery on Thursday and the next couple of days prior were holidays, so they told us to come by on Friday if we wanted him. I talked to my boss and took the day off to make sure we would be there. We received a call on Thursday telling us that the dog had been adopted by a more deserving couple. When I question what exactly was wrong with us, they refused to answer, so we couldn't even work on the issue, or have some closure as to why we weren't picked, and then the woman hung up on me. We had been working with one counselor from the beginning and there was no communication between her and the other counselors there, even after I had asked them to make notes so that they knew we were truly interested and cared. I find it hard to believe that they truly care about the animal’s wellbeing when they are so quick to adopt them out to whoever happens to walk in the door. I'm not a liar, I live for my animals and have done several rescues on my own to save dogs, including standing in the pouring rain and freezing temps for hours. I don't take what I'm saying lightly and it's my devotion to the animals that is prompting me to post this. Not all the volunteers are bad, the fact that they take the time to volunteer is honorable. They just lack organization and proper processes that could ultimately lead to a bad adoption and cause an innocent animal harm. Just be weary and guard your heart if you plan on adopting from Parma Animal shelter.

Provided by YP.com@albuckwald you are so full of it. This is one of the best shelters around. The fosters are so sweet and friendly. The love the animals receive here shows through in how sweet and loving the animals are. I recommend this shelter to everyone. Do not listen to liars like this albuckwald person.

Provided by YP.comLoud, pushy and lack of proper volunteers.
I understand that this shelter is run mostly due to the help they receive from volunteers but if the volunteers at human hospitals acted this way they would be promptly dismissed. The whole place is chaotic and everyone seems to be running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I saw one of the volunteers violently yank a dog by the leash and send it slamming into the pillar that was holding up the awning in the outside dog kennel area.
We were first and foremost given a lecture about animal care before anyone even bothered inquiring about our previous experience with animals. Personally I have had frogs, turtles, hermit crabs, snakes, lizards(anols, iguana), rats, birds, chickens, goats, sheep, cats, dogs and even helped care for horses. For that matter I even had a raccoon that I raised because it's mother was too injured to care for it. I also have experience in adopting dogs as I have had a rescue dog before and several members of my close family also have rescue dogs and I have been around rescue animals all my life including my fathers dog which was a full blood, severely scared pit bull rescued from the world of dog fighting.
Did anyone bother to ask my previous experience with animals? No.
Did anyone bother to ask if my cat has lived with other dogs in the past? No and she has lived with several.
Did I get treated like I was 10 years old (I'm pushin' 30)? Yes.
I think this shelter could do with a few volunteers that aren't going to treat everyone like they are 10 years old crying "I WANNA PUPPY I WANNA PUPPY" and instead get some people that can sit down with you and thoroughly do an interview. Also, being strong enough that the dogs will not be pulling you around on a leash should also be a part of the screening process for being a volunteer at this shelter.

Provided by YP.comOur Dogs got out and were missing for 2 days. I looked everywhere and finally found them at Parma Animal Shelter. When I got there they were just coming in from being walked and were well taken care of. My daughters were thrilled to get them back, but were sad at the number of animals in the shelter. I am thrilled with our shelter in Parma!

Provided by YP.comI have adopted from here before and it was an ok expierence but I just got home from the worst ever. As soon as I opened the door the lady started yelling at me that they were closed. they close at 7 and not even 5 yet, while I understand that they were getting a bunch of dogs that they have to clean and stuff there is NO reason that anyone should ever yell at their customers as soon as they open the door. That is the rudest I have ever been treated. I will never go there and I'm making sure I tell all my friends the same.

Provided by YP.comWe got our dog from the shelter just about two years ago. He has been a wonderful companion to our family. He was well treated and attended to at the shelter and was in good health when we brought him home. The process to adopt was well thought out and they definitely insisted we bring all family members (including frequent visiting extended family) to meet him. Thanks for a great experience and a loving family member.

Provided by YP.comFor a shelter that advertises in taking in stray dogs and cats from the Parma area, they denied an injured kitten that I found in the Parma area from being cared for and taken in at their shelter. I had volunteered at the shelter for two years in the past and honestly, I expected higher of them. I was astounded at the negative attitude that they evoked towards me, and not remembering that I was a dedicated volunteer in the past. They told me that if I were to leave the kitten with them, they would be entitled to call the police on me for "abandonment" (although it wasn't my kitten, it was a stray!) They also told me that they weren't accepting any more cats, although I know for a fact that the shelter is never "Full", they just decide to treat their customers in a rotten manner - as they expected that I was just dumping one of my cats that I bought from a pet store on them - which is extremely untrue; therefore they make it very difficult for a parma citizen to do a good deed and bring in a stray (i've witnessed this scenario in the past when I volunteered.) After bantering with them about how I found the kitten, they made me sign a form, telling me that the animal warden was going to put the kitten to sleep. They continued to verbally harrass me about how I was killing a kitten - a kitten that I couldn't keep hence I barely have a living space of my own and am living on food stamps - as I walked out of the shelter my visit was then concluded with "Thank you for Killing It."
