I really liked science and I was at a point where I was deciding, should I go the PhD route and do research or go the DO route and be a clinician? And ultimately, I wanted to help more people, so I decided to go with medicine. I've always liked brains. In fact, when I was working in a research lab, I was in a neuroscience lab working with mice and studying their brains. I like neurology because even though it's a specialized field, there's so many different diagnoses from multiple sclerosis to epilepsy, to myasthenia gravis to stroke. I like trying to help people with movement disorders who have tremors, and they have difficulty eating or drinking, get to where they feel comfortable going to a restaurant to do those things. Or someone who had daily headaches, now can't remember the last time they had a headache. I enjoy following up with patients and hearing how the treatment has helped them and that they're able to do the things they wanted to do that were inhibited before.
