Dr. Joan Baker provided couples therapy/ relationship counseling for my partner and I weekly for a little over a year. As I'm sure is the case for most seeking relationship counseling, our relationship was a wreck the first time we walked into her office. We started out very focused on how the other person needed to change. Dr. Baker taught us how to question our individual problematic behaviors and beliefs about ourselves and each-other (not easy to do!); she provided us with strategies we could use to improve our own beliefs and behaviors that would ultimately lead to important changes in our relationship. There were times that our sessions were tough- but after having time to reflect, we understood that those were some of the most important. You have to stick it out, but it's well worth it. Most therapists won't do couples work because it's too difficult. I'd highly recommend Dr. Baker to individuals or other couples.
