Early on I had a keen interest in medical sciences and their application. My grandfather was a huge impact on growing up, and he died of metastatic prostate cancer, and was a huge motivating force for me going into medicine. I'd like my patients and their families to know that, one, I'm going to listen, two, I love when patients come that they bring a family member with them. Oftentimes when you get bad news, it's hard to fully understand that bad news, but when you have someone there, family member, they can help to synthesize that information and explain it in another way. And it really helps to understand the feelings of the family who are going to be alongside the patient as they improve and as they heal from either surgery or some medical treatment.
