Well unfortunately I am one of the customers who has to write a bad review about Daniel Yacoubian. I purchased an H. Stern bracelet several years ago and noticed that it was in need of repair. I searched the phonebook and noticed Yacoubian jewelers listed as being able to make repairs. I am new to the city of Memphis and was hoping this was the place to go. I walked into his store and tried to ask for help with my bracelet. I talked to an older lady and she said Daniel would be right out to assist me. Well she left and he came running out. I initially thought to assist me. NO! He quickly looked at my $17,000 bracelet, told me it was basically worthless and could not be repaired and rushed me out the door. That was my first and last experience with him. I later went to another jeweler down the street and had my bracelet good as new in about 1 day.

I went to Daniel Yacoubian Jewelers this afternoon in order to discuss designing a custom wedding band to fit my fiancé’s custom engagement ring as well as a wedding band for myself. After being greeted by a lady who seemed pleasant, Mr. Yacoubian emerged from his office and met me at the counter. I explained what I needed and he curtly told me that since he did not sell me the engagement ring, he did not want my business and would not be troubled with designing anything for me (he literally looked at the ring, confirmed he did not sell it to me & told me to take my business elsewhere). I asked a second time because I thought I misheard or misunderstood him since this kind of dismissive customer service was simply astounding; unfortunately, he wasted no time in clarifying his position. For the record, I recently moved to the Memphis area and my fiancé’s ring was designed by a jewelry store in my hometown out of state. In addition, none of the other six jewelry stores I visited today voiced any similar concerns nor did they express that designing a custom wedding band would pose any problem whatsoever. If you're considering using this jewelry store, I would suggest taking your business to Phillip at James Gattas Jewelers or Shelley at Robert Irwin Jewelers: both gave me personalized attention and answered all my questions. I'm actually having great difficulty deciding which of these great companies to use.

My boyfriend and I spent the majority of the day Saturday engagement ring shopping. We popped in several places, this being one of them. BOTH of the Yacoubians were BEYOND helpful, sweet, charming and funny. As a matter of fact, when we left I told my bf that I would rather buy from them than anyone bc of how wonderful they were. Their merchandise is also lovely. I only have great thoughts about them!

I recently dropped by Yacoubian to sell off some estate jewelry I'd inherited. I had never liked the jewelry, and knew it was not my style. I had intended to visit another dealer inside of the Independent Tower, but Yacoubian was right on Poplar, so I made them my first stop. I was treated with warmth and professionalism. Mr. Y also took the time to explain in an easy to understand way how they value the jewelry they buy. I now know how to spot a diamond v. a CZ. He also gave me a better offer than the jewelers in business behind his store. I'd happily do business with this store again.

DBALL6365 came to our store t...

DBALL6365 came to our store to sell his used wedding band, but not before expressing his dismay at not being able to get "what it's really worth". An expression he used repeatedly. After a brief tutorial on the different values of gold and the need of businesses to make a profit, he was still bewildered. After much hesitation, he admitted he was a retired government employee, at which Daniel, I and a paying customer [witness] laughed " that explains it, the government has no bottom line". He refused our offer on his ring. No transaction took place. Since then this guy has called three times on his cell to "call me out " accusing me of "not being woman enough" to agree with him, threatened legal action because he was treated rudely, and called Daniel, a 62 year old man an a--hole. He also sent an anonymous letter banged out on an old IBM Selectric, sealed with his DNA and a strip of shiny Scotch tape, informing us of his campaign against us with all his friends, the BBB and the yellow pages. That's a lot of creepy drama from a guy we addressed only as "sir" and did no business with.

The Yacoubians are some of the most caring people I know in business. On my first visit, they welcomed me with a smile and a friendly greeting. I did not feel like a customer when I was in their store. They made me feel totally at ease in every transaction and have each time I have returned. They have been in business for a very long time and seem to know what they are doing. Daniel appears to be a no nonsense kinda guy, but I have found him to be incredibly honest and straight-forward. They will not sell you junk. They will take the time to explain why something is more valuable than something else. They will give you fair value for gold exchange and show you how to tell what is gold and what is not. They are diamond experts plus incredibly talented at creating beautiful custom jewelry. I have never known them to be anything but friendly and welcoming to me and other customers while I was in the store. I would choose Daniel Yacoubian Jewelers over any other jewelry store in Memphis for their integrity, if nothing else!

I echo the comments shown abov...

I echo the comments shown above with gusto. . Both of these individuals are extremely rude, but especially Mr. Yacoubian, and very disrespectful to their customers. I came in to get information about gold prices, values and selling prices for my gold jewelry and was treated like dirt and told to leave the business and take my business elsewhere for no apparent reason!!! He asked me questions like where I worked and had I ever run a business before and then made some snide comment under his breath about how would I know anything about selling jewelry.. He seemed irritated by my presence in his store and I told him I had no intention of bothering him in any way and I was merely trying to get some information about how businesses go about determining how much to offer on an item and vs. how much the item is actually worth. He seemed insulted that I was asking these questions and said he didn't participate in money laundering practices. I have NO idea what he meant by that and was shocked and told him I didn't know what he was trying to say. He is obviously very jealous about his nearby competitor who buys gold and treats customers the way they should be treated. I have reported him to the BBB and want everyone to know about his unpleasant business practices. I would never recommend him to anybody and will certainly never step foot inside his store ever again.....Hopefully, he will go out of business real soon and save everybody who enters his store a lot of grief. I would like to say what he actually is, but I'm afraid my comments would not get published so I will refrain. Honest to God, I don't know how in the world anyone could stay in business for very long when they treat their customers like they treated me.....I would like to give him a negative rating but not possible on this website....

I have never been so insulted ...

I have never been so insulted and belittled in my life! I went to Yacoubian Jewelers hoping to gain insight on wedding jewelry and explore styles. I found minimal selection and even worse salesmanship. The few questions I had, were met with snide remarks and sarcastic answers. I was a serious buyer prepared to to purchase jewelry of a lifetime. I was rudely buzzed out of the store so that the jeweler could go to lunch within five minutes of entering the store. I will never return or recommend Yacoubian on Poplar Avenue.
